Sequoyah Hills

Sequoyah Hills is one of Knoxville’s oldest, and most prestigious, West Knoxville neighborhoods. It sits in a bend in the river and is a large neighborhood known around town for its large, awesome parks, tree-lined main boulevard, gorgeous lake views, and expensive homes.

Sequoyah Hills proper dates back to around 1920 and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association has a pretty detailed history of the development of the area from then to now.

Like several neighborhoods that are developed over many decades, Sequoyah Hills is very architecturally diverse. Styles include everything from English Cottage, English Tudor, and American Colonial to 50s and 60s ranchers, contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright inspired homes, and newer traditional homes.

Sequoyah Hills is great place to live if you like to walk, run, bike, or just laze around in a great city park. The neighborhood is home to the 87 acre Sequoyah Park , which is so big it is broken into 3 parts, each with its own entrance. Each area include picnic facilities, walking trails, water access, a playground, softball/baseball fields, and lots of green, open space to relax in and on. There is also a smaller 1 acre park, Talahi Park, which has two shelters, benches and a fountain.

Sequoyah Hills also contains a 2.6 mile section of the Knoxville Greenway. The Sequoyah Greenway is located in the median of Cherokee Boulevard, which starts at Kingston Pike, and winds its way south and west along the river.

Not only does the neighborhood have built-in recreation facilities, it also has a branch of the Knox County Library (the Sequoyah branch), an elementary school (the George Berber designed Sequoyah School), and a church (Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church).

Sequoyah Hills residents have lots of options when it comes to dining. Those who just need coffee, breakfast or an afternoon snack don’t have to go far. The Blackbird Coffeehouse is located in the heart of Sequoyah Hills on Kenesaw Ave. Residents looking for a larger portions can make their way west to the many restaurants located in the Bearden area or east to all of the eateries that line the Cumberland Strip.

Sequoyah Hills is currently zoned for Sequoyah Elementary School, Bearden Middle School and West High School.
